In my last blog I talked about second chances. God is for us. He does not give up, even if we do. And He is fully committed to help those we love find Jesus.
My Dad was pretty resistant to the Gospel most of his life. He was an engineer, a self-made man, a skeptic and he had some really bad Christian role models in his life. For almost 40 years, my wife and I shared Jesus with my Dad without any response. When my younger brother came to Christ in his late 20s, he added 30 years of efforts in trying to reach Dad. Nothing. But when my Dad was well past 80, in fact when he entered into the illness which would finally take his life, we heard God say, “Don’t give up. Try again.”
When my Dad was hospitalized a few weeks before he died, I was driving out to visit him and God encouraged me to try again. “Dad,” I started, “what do you think comes next? Have you thought about what the next chapter of your life looks when you leave this earth?” He looked at me and said, “Tell me more.” Over the next couple weeks, Martie & I shared and prayed with him and my brother Mark shared and prayed with him. In his own very quiet way, he finally accepted Jesus’ offer of forgiveness and new life. A week later he died.
Never give up!
Philemon 6 “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.”
