When both my daughters were in college away from home I was always anxious to hear from them. Even to this day, nothing thrills me more to have them call me in the middle of the day to talk to me.  My staff has strict instructions—it doesn’t matter who I’m meeting with, or who I’m on the phone with—when my girls call, they are to interrupt me and put them through.  I don’t care if I’m on a conference call with the President of the United States.  If one of my girls calls, I put him on hold and talk to my little darling.  It doesn’t matter why they call—it could be a question about their work, needing directions, some financial need, or a thought about what they are doing this coming summer.  It doesn’t matter if the issue is large or small—I just love to hear their voice and I’m so glad they bothered to call me.  I’m honored by their request and I want to do anything in my power to help them out.  Anything!
God feels the same way when we stop and talk to Him.  It just brightens his day to hear our voice.  He is delighted to have the chance to help us.  And unlike me, a human father, His power and love are unlimited.  There is nothing beyond his ability to pull off for the children he loves.  Now that doesn’t mean God will give you anything you pray for.  God always answers our prayers.  He can answer “yes”, he can answer “no”, or he can answer “maybe later.”  Just because God doesn’t immediately grant you what you ask for doesn’t mean he hasn’t answered your prayer. Scripture teaches us that God, like a loving heavenly father, will only give us those things that are truly good for us.  Jesus put it this way, “Which of you if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he asks for fish, will you give him a snake?  If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him?”  (Matthew 7:9-11)
